Midterm Season: Food Adventures

When it’s midterm season, no one really wants to cook, so going out for food in generally what my friends and I do!

So one day we just decided to go restaurant hopping! Actually, I can’t really call it food hopping since we had all Mexican food cravings, but it was at different places at least! So for lunch, we first visited Costa Vida, the new Mexican grill over at the Campus Plaza. Usually people go there for Gatten Sushi, Gina’s Pizza, and Albertsons, so it’s a super convenient location for business owners to get college kids to eat their food. Costa Vida has been open for about a week or two only.

Since my roommate and I had been craving burritos, we decided to get some over at this new place for lunch. We spent so much time trying to decide what to get because they have so many options. Plus there were a few student specials we couldn’t ignore. We’re in school so generally anything with a discount is appealing. The food was great and it came with so much cheese. I love cheese by the way.

After surviving the food coma of lunch, some friends wanted to go to Albatros. Albatros is another Mexican restaurant with really good and almost authentic food. But literally everyone at UCI has gone before at least once. I didn’t know what carne asada fries were before coming to Irvine, but now that I see the light that is Albatros, it’s the only thing I get. It’s basically French fries but covered in carne asada, cheese, sour cream and guacamole. Almost impossible for me to finish the whole thing in one go too.

Our last stop of the day was Sprinkles Ice Cream. My roommate wanted something sweet and we were craving cupcakes, but since Sprinkles Cupcakes closed at 9, their next door ice cream shop was the next best thing. This was another place I’d never heard of before coming to UCI: Sprinkles. Supposedly this chain was the first to make a cupcake store and now they’ve expanded to ice cream. It’s like one of the sweetest things I’ve ever had. They always have amazing flavors and it’s always full of sugar and goodness. And even though it’s winter, it’s never too cold for ice cream. Honestly, after this, my stomach died a little. Too much food and then bam, too much sugar. The whole day was painful but so totally worth it.
